Masks for Refugee Families
We are excited to report a powerful connection of community partners to provide aid during the COVID-19 crisis. Grassroots organization Helmets Helping Heroes has donated 300 surgical masks to Refugee Village in support of families in Dekalb County, Georgia. These masks will directly support 7 refugee families and also support refugee and/or immigrant students at Stone Mountain High School.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought an overwhelming need for personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline workers and essential staff. Helmets Helping Heroes is led by organizer Linda Schwartz. The group took action based on dire need identified by Dr. Lisa Ellman-Grunther. In a grassroots effort, involving women from across the country, the organization has sourced and procured essential ventilation helmets, masks, gowns, and other medical equipment to hospitals and essential workers.
